Capturing Creativity: Local Photographer LaToye Zinn Leads Photography Class at Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Delta

At the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Delta, we're excited to share that local photographer LaToye Zinn recently led a basic photography class for students from our Greenwood and Itta Bena programs. This class introduced our members to the fundamentals of photography, including essential vocabulary, camera care, ethics, composition, and lighting.

Students learned how to handle their cameras responsibly, emphasizing proper maintenance and ethical considerations. They also explored composition principles and the effects of lighting on their images. As part of the course, students wrote about their chosen photo subjects, explaining their creative choices. This reflective exercise encouraged critical thinking and enhanced their writing skills.

A highlight of the class was the mentorship between older and younger students, fostering a collaborative learning environment. The course will culminate in an exhibition at both the Greenwood and Itta Bena centers, showcasing the students' photographs and written statements.

This photography class, aligned with our STEM focus, supported the holistic development of our members by nurturing their artistic abilities alongside their technical skills. We’re grateful to LaToye Zinn for inspiring our youth and helping them see the world through a new lens.
